Abstract

This article focuses on forensic biologist Kirsty Wright’s exposure of systemic failures and deception in a Queensland, Australia, forensic DNA laboratory. After reviewing DNA evidence from a cold case murder, Wright discovered that the lab had set an unusually high DNA testing threshold, leading to false “No DNA detected” results and unreliable evidence in over 30,000 rape and murder cases since 2007. Despite initial resistance from authorities, Wright’s findings prompted a public inquiry that confirmed widespread malpractice and initiated a comprehensive overhaul of the forensic lab. Wright continues to assist in reforming the system to restore scientific integrity and improve justice outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
