Abstract
Antony Gormley, a renowned sculptor, discusses the importance of supporting arts education and nurturing creativity in the UK. He emphasizes the need for art schools to provide a liberal education that fosters critical thinking and new forms of expression. Gormley believes that art is a fundamental human need and right, and that it should be accessible to all, countering the notion that it is only for the elite. He also expresses his political engagement and the role of art in addressing urgent challenges, creating alternative worlds, and fostering engagement and cross-fertilization. Gormley envisions a kinder and more open society that celebrates diversity and embraces its connections to Europe. He calls for treating the sea as a bridge rather than a barrier and creating a welcoming home for those forced to leave their loved ones and places of origin. [Extracted from the article]
