Abstract

Librarians are coming together to celebrate and promote the positive aspects of comics and graphic novels, despite the challenges they face. Shira Pilarski, the incoming president of the American Library Association’s Graphic Novels and Comics Round Table, is focusing on "queer joy in comics" for their President's Program. Graphic novels are popular in libraries, but they also face challenges from pressure groups. Librarians are using strategies such as curating collections and shelving books by age group to minimize problems. Publishers are committed to continuing to publish diverse and controversial graphic novels, despite the potential for bans. [Extracted from the article]
