Abstract
The article focuses on various leaders and initiatives addressing climate change and environmental conservation. Hawaii's Governor Josh Green established a Climate Advisory Team that proposed a new tourism tax, known as a "green fee," to fund climate-resiliency projects following the 2023 Maui wildfires. Violet Sage Walker, chairwoman of the Northern Chumash Tribal Council, successfully advocated for the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary and is now working to reclaim sacred land for her tribe. Neha Mankani founded the Mama Baby Fund in Pakistan to provide essential care to mothers and infants affected by climate change, while ‘Aulani Wilhelm, CEO of Nia Tero, has significantly increased support for Indigenous guardianship of ecosystems. Lastly, Benji Backer, founder of Nature Is Nonpartisan, played a key role in the establishment of a council aimed at conserving public lands and protecting wildlife through a recent executive order.
