Abstract

This article examines a/r/tography—a practice-based research methodology combining artist, researcher, and teacher identities—as a dynamic process of "becoming" through autobiographical stories in motion. Using the concept of métissage, the authors interweave their experiences of becoming artists, researchers, and teachers to explore how a/r/tography fosters reflexivity, dialogue, and pedagogical transformation across visual art, music improvisation, and textile creation. The narratives highlight how engaging with multimodal artistic practices enables deeper self-understanding, relational learning, and the emergence of new educational possibilities. The article emphasizes a/r/tography's capacity to create spaces for ongoing inquiry, affective connection, and collective meaning-making within art education.
