Abstract

The article investigates the impact of four different oil-soluble film-forming agents—trimethylsiloxysilicate, polymethylsilsesquioxane, (acrylates/dimethicone copolymer, cyclopentasiloxane), and VP/hexadecene copolymer—on the makeup-holding properties of water-in-oil (W/O) liquid foundations. Using Visia-CR skin image analysis on Chinese female volunteers aged 20–40, the study measured parameters including skin brightness (L* value), skin whiteness (ITA° value), pore area percentage, and skin tone uniformity (Hue value) before and six hours after makeup application. Results showed that foundations containing 3% trimethylsiloxysilicate best maintained skin brightness and whiteness, while those with 3% (acrylates/dimethicone copolymer, cyclopentasiloxane) most effectively preserved pore concealment and skin tone uniformity. Overall, formulations with trimethylsiloxysilicate or (acrylates/dimethicone copolymer, cyclopentasiloxane) demonstrated superior makeup-holding performance compared to those with polymethylsilsesquioxane or VP/hexadecene copolymer, providing guidance for designing long-lasting foundations.
