Abstract
The article analyzes Andy Warhol's exhibition "Ten Portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century" through a theoretical lens that critiques the conventional categorization of technical images such as photographs. It argues that Warhol's portraits function as a photographic critique by using the medium's own technical means to expose the informational poverty and ideological programming inherent in mass-produced images. Warhol reduces recognizable portraits to minimal elements and overlays disruptive colors, inviting viewers to engage actively rather than passively consume these images. The article situates Warhol's work within a broader critique of technical civilization, proposing that technical products can be repurposed critically to challenge dominant cultural programming, offering an alternative to both uncritical technocracy and romantic rejection of technology.
