Abstract
A study conducted at Georgia State University examined the underrepresentation of dark-skinned/Black characters in The Sims 4 video game and the strategies players use to address this issue. The research highlighted player-authored game modifications and custom content as a partial solution, but emphasized that this places the burden of fixing underrepresentation on players rather than the game's publisher. The study discusses implications for self-representation and diversity in gaming media, emphasizing the importance of addressing these issues in popular media. [Extracted from the article]
