Abstract
This article focuses on Amir Mahdi Qurbani, a 19-year-old refugee animator living in Jakarta, whose work on the animated Lego biopic *Piece by Piece* about singer-producer Pharrell Williams marks his first theatrical film credit. Despite facing significant challenges—including limited formal education, lack of legal status, and financial hardship—Qurbani contributed over 400 character designs to the film, which tells Pharrell's story through animated Lego pieces. The project was facilitated by Tongal, a platform connecting emerging artists with industry opportunities. Qurbani's experience highlights the intersection of refugee resilience, creative talent, and digital platforms enabling access to global entertainment industries.
