Abstract
REGULARSSetting behind the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope on Cerro Paranal, Chile, astrophotographer Yuri Beletsky captured a mesmerising view of the ‘supermoon’ in August 2024. This imposing view of the Moon occurs when our natural satellite is at its closest point to Earth during its orbit, called perigee. At full Moon, it can appear much larger than normal, but it’s only about seven per cent larger than it is at its average distance. [Extracted from the article]
