Abstract
A recent study suggests that the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), a well-known astronomical object, is actually two galaxies rather than one. By tracking the movements of gas clouds and young stars within the SMC, researchers have found evidence of two separate stellar nurseries thousands of light-years apart. This reassessment has led to calls for renaming the SMC and its neighbor, the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), due to the controversial history of their namesake, Ferdinand Magellan. Further studies are needed to determine the nature of the two parts of the SMC and to decide on new names for these celestial objects. [Extracted from the article]
