Abstract
This article discusses nine astronomy theories that were once believed but later proven to be incorrect. Some of these theories, such as Kepler's idea that the planets' orbits were dictated by different shapes, led to important discoveries. Others, like the belief in the luminiferous aether, were disproven by experiments. The article also mentions Galileo's initial misunderstanding of Saturn's rings, the discovery of Ceres as a new planet, the mistaken belief in canals on Mars, the steady-state theory of the universe, the initial speculation of alien radio signals from pulsars, and the false claim of a planet around Barnard's Star.
