Abstract

NASA is launching the Europa Clipper spacecraft on a 5½-year journey to Jupiter's moon Europa. The spacecraft will explore the moon's icy surface and investigate the possibility of a global ocean beneath it. Europa's ocean is kept liquid by tidal forces from Jupiter and its sister moons, and it is believed to contain elements necessary for life. The Europa Clipper is equipped with nine instruments to determine if Europa has the environment to support life. The spacecraft will reach Jupiter in 2030 and conduct a minimum of four years of operation in the Jovian system. [Extracted from the article]
