Abstract
Dr. Linda Tacconi of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics has been awarded the Caroline Herschel Medal for her contributions to astronomy and service to the European astronomical community. She was recognized for her studies of star-forming molecular gas in galaxies. The medal is jointly awarded by the Royal Astronomical Society and the German Astronomical Society. In other news, the commercial spacecraft Odysseus successfully landed on the Moon's South Pole, carrying instruments for NASA and commercial customers. Several significant discoveries have been made in astronomy, including a cat's tail-shaped dust branch around a young planetary system, weather patterns on an exoplanet, and the presence of rings around the Centaur Chariklo. Other findings include concentric rings around the star HD 144432, the formation of massive black holes, the discovery of a new type of elderly red giant star, and the detection of water molecules on asteroids.
