Abstract

The article presents the conversation between author Alice Walker with Jackson State English Chairman Doctor Ebony Lumumba to discuss not only her original attendance at the 1973 Phillis Wheatley Poetry Festival but also the work that sprang from it, her acclaimed essay, "Our Mothers' Gardens." Walker and Lumumba also discussed their mothers, their own motherhood, and the sisterhood that unites all Black women.
