Abstract

The article focuses on the 2023 American Statistical Association (ASA) Data Visualization Poster Competition for Grades K–12, which invited students across the USA to create posters addressing statistical questions on topics meaningful to them. Entries covered diverse subjects including climate change, sports, homework, and popular culture, with judging criteria emphasizing clear statistical inquiry, appropriate data collection, and effective visualization. Notable projects included predictions of Taylor Swift's next album release, analyses of middle school gaming habits, surveys on homework's impact on students' health and grades, correlations between education, income, and life expectancy in the USA, and an investigation into whether NBA teams with better teamwork or star players perform better in playoffs. The competition was overseen by the ASA/National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Joint Committee on Curriculum in Statistics and Probability.
