Abstract

The article focuses on Damien Hirst's 2021 exhibition "The Currency" at Newport Street Gallery in London, where the artist combined physical artworks with digital non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Hirst created 10,000 unique dot paintings, each paired with a corresponding NFT, which buyers could keep or exchange for the physical piece within a year; unclaimed works were destroyed in gallery incinerators. The project was presented as a commentary on the value and future of art in both physical and digital forms, though the author expresses skepticism about the NFT market and its environmental impact. The exhibition also referenced earlier art projects involving destruction as a conceptual statement.
