Abstract
Specter takes Morgenthau to task for neglecting North-South issues and assuming an "imperial prerogative" for the United States in expanding its global reach. A self-proclaimed exponent of realism, political scientist John Mearsheimer has become notorious for blaming the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the United States and its Western European allies. Specter is surely correct that most Cold War policymakers thought of themselves as realists, but their realism departed from the thinkers in this book. [Extracted from the article]
