Abstract

The article focuses on the distinct development and strategic integration of generative artificial intelligence (gen AI) ecosystems in China and the West. It outlines how Chinese companies like Alibaba, Baidu, Tencent, and startups such as DeepSeek have built a unique gen AI infrastructure characterized by three pillars—customization in infrastructure, cost leadership in model development, and calibration for real-world applications—differing significantly from Western approaches. Given geopolitical tensions and regulatory differences, global firms are advised to adopt a dual-track strategy that leverages both Chinese and Western AI technologies to optimize performance, cost-efficiency, and compliance. The article emphasizes that this hybrid approach is essential for navigating a multipolar AI future rather than choosing between competing ecosystems.
