Abstract

The article focuses on the Artemis II mission, a historic crewed flight around the moon that launched on April 1 and concluded with a Pacific Ocean splashdown on April 10. The four-person crew—astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen—achieved several milestones, including the first lunar orbit for a Black astronaut (Glover) and a female astronaut (Koch), and set a record for the farthest distance traveled from Earth at 252,756 miles. The mission also resulted in the discovery of two new moon craters and provided new photographs of the moon’s far side, contributing to plans for a lunar surface return in 2028.
