Abstract

This article focuses on the life and legacy of Ted Turner, the U.S. media pioneer who founded CNN, the first 24-hour cable news channel, in 1980. Turner expanded his media empire with channels such as CNN Headline News, CNN International, Cartoon Network, TBS, and TNT, significantly influencing global news coverage and earning TIME's Man of the Year in 1991. Beyond media, Turner was a prominent philanthropist who established the Turner Foundation for environmental conservation and the United Nations Foundation, pledging $1 billion to support U.N. programs. He was also one of North America’s largest private landowners, practicing sustainable land management. Turner passed away at age 87 after battling Lewy body dementia, with tributes highlighting his impact on broadcasting, conservation, and civic leadership.
