Abstract
A recent report discusses research findings on the physical health outcomes of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among post-9/11 women veterans. The study examined the associations between lifetime TBI, current PTSD, and biomarkers of cardiometabolic health, sleep, pain, and functional disability. The results showed that both TBI and PTSD were associated with higher waist-hip ratio, worse pain and sleep, and lower levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL). The study highlights the importance of screening for TBI and cardiovascular disease in women veterans and suggests the need for transdiagnostic treatment approaches targeting physical health outcomes.
