Abstract
This keynote address focuses on Walter J. Ong's approach to scholarship as a method for navigating problems of communication and knowledge within media ecology research. Rather than proposing a fixed system, Ong emphasized "method" as a way through complex information, tracing transformations in information management from oral cultures (verbo-motor and rhetorical practices) through memory systems, mechanical writing and printing, to digital and hermeneutic systems. The address illustrates Ong's method with examples from theology, music, and church architecture, showing how different media shape the ways people organize, express, and reflect on knowledge and belief. Ong's work highlights the evolving relationship between communication media and human understanding across historical and cultural contexts.
