Abstract
The article focuses on the Philippines' call for Myanmar to grant an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) envoy access to detained former leader Aung San Suu Kyi and to increase transparency regarding her transfer to house arrest. The Philippines, chairing ASEAN in 2026, emphasized the importance of Suu Kyi’s communication with her family as a sign of commitment to national reconciliation. Myanmar’s military-backed government recently announced Suu Kyi’s move from prison to house arrest, seen as a gesture toward international recognition. ASEAN continues to engage with Myanmar under the framework of the Five-Point Consensus Plan, adopted in 2021 to address the country’s political and humanitarian crisis, although no consensus has been reached on recognizing Myanmar’s election results.
