Abstract
In a surprising move, Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation on February 11, 2013, citing deteriorating health. This marked the first resignation of a Pope since 1415. He officially stepped down from his position on February 28. In another significant event, civil rights protestors in Marion, Alabama were attacked by white separatists, prompting Martin Luther King Jr and the Southern Christian Leadership Council to organize a march from Selma to Montgomery. On March 7, the marchers were met with a brutal attack by Alabama State Troopers, which was captured on television and led to an increase in protestors joining the march. [Extracted from the article]
