Abstract

In the book "Silent Coup: How Corporations Overthrew Democracy" by Claire Provost and Matt Kennard, the authors explore the rise of global corporate power and its impact on democracy. They investigate examples of what they call "corporate colonialism" in 25 countries, examining how corporations have taken over government functions, particularly in the security market. The authors also discuss the influence of multinational companies in creating "banana republics" and benefiting from violent evictions. However, they also highlight instances of resistance and the remunicipalization of water in various countries. The book has received endorsements from figures such as Noam Chomsky and Jeremy Corbyn.
