Abstract
Blue Note Records, an iconic jazz label with a history dating back to 1939, is celebrating its 85th anniversary. The label's President and Vice President, Don Was and Justin Seltzer, discuss how they are preserving the label's legacy today. Blue Note recently launched Blue Note Africa, a new imprint that aims to promote African music globally. The label is releasing 70 albums this year, featuring both established and emerging artists. Blue Note's reissue program has made classic recordings and unreleased gems available to a new generation of listeners. The label has a history of supporting uncompromising expression in jazz and has worked with influential artists such as Eric Dolphy, McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, and Wayne Shorter. Blue Note's music has had a profound impact on listeners, providing guidance and inspiration during difficult times.
