Abstract

The article analyzes how the No Options: Hip Hop in Appalachia album invokes abolitionist praxis by challenging controlling images of Appalachians as backward white mountaineers, erasing Indigenous, Black, and resistant histories to justify oppression. Tt reclaims the "historical present tense," modeling a prison-free future amid Central Appalachia's prison density.
