Abstract

This article focuses on American sprinter Noah Lyles competing at the Paris Olympics while infected with COVID-19. Despite testing positive and experiencing symptoms such as chills, aches, and coughing, Lyles chose to run in the 200-meter event, where he finished third and won a bronze medal. The article notes that there is no uniform COVID-19 protocol for athletes at these Games, with decisions handled individually by federations and teams. USA Track & Field and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee supported Lyles' decision after medical evaluation, emphasizing athlete safety and rights. Lyles kept his diagnosis private to avoid giving competitors an advantage and expressed pride in his performance under challenging circumstances.
