Abstract

Aja Monet, a poet and musician, is reviving the Black Arts Movement's tradition of combining poetry with live music, attracting a diverse audience, including Gen Z, to her performances. Drawing from the Black Arts Movement of the 1960s and '70s, Monet's work addresses systemic issues and explores themes of love, technology, and community. Through her poetry and community organizing efforts, Monet offers a unique alternative for listeners seeking communal connections in a society marked by alienation and loneliness.
