Abstract

The article discusses the 2024 curatorial research trip of three National Trust women curators to historic houses and museums in the U.S. to gain insight on late-nineteenth century women art collectors. Topics explored include the visit to the historic homes of art collectors Isabella Stewart Gardner, Alva Vanderbilt, and Alice Vanderbilt, the scope of the art collection of heiress Margaret Greville, and the collection of crucifixes and tapestries by philanthropist Cara Leyland Rogers.
