Abstract
The article focuses on research examining fertility rates among women with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including autism and intellectual disability, enrolled in Medicaid and/or Medicare from 2011 to 2022. Using International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes, the study analyzed data from over 33,000 women in the United States, finding relatively stable general fertility rates with slight increases over time, particularly among women with autism. The research highlights historical reproductive rights challenges faced by women with IDD and underscores the need to further investigate factors affecting their access to quality and continuous healthcare. This peer-reviewed study was supported by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and conducted by Boston University School of Public Health.
