Abstract
The article focuses on Robert Kennedy's 1968 presidential campaign speech at Creighton University in Nebraska, highlighting its significance amid the limited primary election system of the era. Kennedy's address emphasized political engagement, opposition to the Vietnam War draft deferments, and racial and social justice, reflecting his Catholic faith and commitment to equality. Despite facing a largely white, middle-class audience that initially reacted with boos to some of his candid remarks, Kennedy won the Nebraska primary decisively, demonstrating broad support among blue-collar whites, farmers, and urban minorities. The article also contextualizes Kennedy's campaign within the 1968 Democratic nomination race and reflects on the potential impact had he not been assassinated later that year.
