Abstract

The article "Ferrari's model of Toulmin" challenges the widespread use of Stephen Toulmin's argument layouts in mathematics education. The author argues that Toulmin's model is outdated and has a distorted view of mathematics and mathematical arguments. However, the scholars who applied Toulmin's work to mathematics education were not concerned with his wider philosophical views but rather with his model of argumentation. The article suggests that Toulmin's work can still be valuable for mathematics education in areas other than mathematics itself. [Extracted from the article]
