Abstract
This article focuses on Murasaki Shikibu, a Japanese noblewoman of the Early Heian period, who authored The Tale of Genji, widely regarded as the world's first novel and a masterpiece of Japanese literature. Born into a scholarly family, Murasaki was fluent in Japanese and Chinese literature, and her work offers a detailed portrayal of aristocratic life, psychological insight into characters, and a nuanced exploration of women's roles in her society. Despite her literary talent, she faced social isolation at the Imperial Court, where she served as a lady-in-waiting to Empress Shōshi. Murasaki's innovative storytelling and depiction of court culture have had a lasting influence on literature and provide valuable historical and cultural perspectives.
