Abstract
This document is a review of two books published in the Journal of the Australian Early Medieval Association. The first book, "The Festal Letters of Athanasius of Alexandria, with the Festal Index and the Historia Acephala," provides translations of pastoral letters by Athanasius, bishop of Alexandria in the fourth century. These letters, which were annual announcements about the dates of Easter, offer insights into the true meaning of the feast. The second book, "Libanius: A Critical Introduction," focuses on the later life of Libanius, a prominent figure in late Roman imperial and administrative history. The review praises both books for their contributions to scholarship and recommends them for those interested in early Christian studies and Egyptian Christianity. [Extracted from the article]
