Abstract
Soul Music Records has recently released a comprehensive reissue of Nina Simone's music recorded for the Colpix label between 1959 and 1963. The 8-CD set includes eight complete albums, as well as singles and radio edits. The label, which existed from 1958 to 1966, was a subsidiary of Columbia Pictures and primarily focused on film and TV soundtracks. The reissue provides a new appreciation for Simone's talent as a pianist and showcases her development as an artist. The collection also includes essays from Simone's archivist, the librettist of the opera Nina Simone's Absurde, and the founder of the UK Appreciation Society for Nina Simone.
