Abstract
REGULARS20-21 May 1927Taking off from Roosevelt Field, Long Island, New York, pilot Charles Lindbergh attempted to make the first nonstop solo transatlantic flight from New York to Paris. Flying in a specially built plane called the Spirit of St Louis, his goal was to win the Orteig Prize — a $25,000 reward offered by hotelier Raymond Orteig to the first person to complete a flight between the two cities. After 33.5 hours in the air, Lindbergh landed at Le Bourget Aerodrome just outside Paris, where he was greeted by around 150,000 people. [Extracted from the article]
