Abstract
The article examines the trend among historians of inserting personal autobiographical material into their historical accounts, replacing the authorial voice with a process of self-discovery by the historian. Topics discussed include self-reflexive history writing, the personal narratives and memories of author Danielle Clode in her book "In Search of the Woman Who Sailed the World," and the technique of offering conflicting accounts of historical event without resolving them.
