Abstract
The article provides a comprehensive overview of the life and artistic career of John Wesley Hardrick, an African American artist from Indianapolis. Hardrick's talent for portraits and landscapes earned him recognition, despite facing racial restrictions. He painted a mural for Crispus Attucks High School, although it was rejected, and became the most prominent Black portrait artist in Indianapolis. Hardrick's early achievements, including awards and exhibitions, are highlighted, as well as his perseverance in pursuing his passion for art while working in the family business. The article also mentions his mural for a church and his love for painting landscapes in Brown County.
