Abstract

The article reviews *Dante e il cinema: I film ispirati alla vita e alle opere dell'autore della 'Divina Commedia'* (2021), edited by Paolo Speranza and Enrico Giacovelli, which surveys over a century of films inspired by Dante Alighieri's life and works. Published for the 700th anniversary of Dante's death, the volume compiles extensive historical, cultural, and iconographic documentation, including a detailed filmography categorized by direct adaptations, documentaries and video art, and films with Dantean references. Intended primarily for Italian high school and university students as well as scholars and film enthusiasts, the book offers a broad, accessible overview rather than in-depth critical analysis, organizing films around Dantean themes and verses. Despite some structural challenges, the work contributes a valuable resource for teaching and future research on Dante's reception in cinema and audiovisual media.
