Abstract
This article examines the Frog and Toad children's book series by Arnold Lobel, focusing on the author's personal experiences and reflections. The author discusses their daughter's roleplaying as Frog and Toad, prompting them to revisit the books and contemplate the characters' dynamics. The article also explores the episodic nature of the stories and the minimalist writing style that adds depth to the narratives. Additionally, the author shares memories of their childhood best friend and the significance of the natural environment in their friendship. The text also delves into the life of Arnold Lobel, the author and illustrator, discussing his upbringing, artistic pursuits, and the speculation surrounding the relationship between Frog and Toad. The author argues that readers are free to interpret the characters as they wish, as Lobel intentionally created a world where questions about sexuality don't exist.
