Abstract

A recent study from Sapienza University of Rome revisited Hans Berger's discovery of human resting-state electroencephalographic (rsEEG) alpha rhythms and their potential applications in Alzheimer's disease (AD). While clinical guidelines do not currently endorse routine use of rsEEG biomarkers in older adults with cognitive impairment, research suggests that abnormalities in rsEEG rhythms in AD patients may correlate with established AD biomarkers and impact patients' quality of life. The study concludes that Berger's vision of using EEG to understand and manage dementia in pathological aging remains relevant. [Extracted from the article]
