Abstract

This article provides a brief overview of a colloquium titled "Being before Aristotle" that took place at the University of Vienna. The colloquium aimed to explore the historical development of the concept of being in ancient Greek philosophy, particularly before Aristotle. Scholars discussed the contributions of various thinkers, including Parmenides, Plato, Gorgias, Protagoras, and Antisthenes, to the understanding of being. The colloquium focused on questions related to predication, definition, enunciation, proposition, and assertion, as well as the logical and linguistic approaches to the notion of being before Aristotle.
