Abstract

The article explores the role of author Gertrude Stein as an art critic and literary innovator in the mid-twentieth century in Paris, France. Topics discussed include her art collection which featured works of notable artists such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Georges Braque, her publication of the memoir "The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas" in 1933 which focused on her life partner, Alice B. Toklas, and the recognition earned by her portrait writing style.
