Abstract
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil is set to expel Nicaragua's ambassador to Brazil, escalating tensions between Lula and his traditional ally, Daniel Ortega. The move comes in response to Ortega's decision to remove the Brazilian ambassador from Nicaragua after he declined to attend a ceremony commemorating the Sandinista revolution. Lula and Ortega have had a close relationship, but it has deteriorated since Lula expressed concerns about Ortega's repression of the Catholic Church and political opponents. Lula has faced criticism at home in Brazil for his association with Ortega's regime. [Extracted from the article]
