Abstract
This article focuses on two 2023 London revivals of musicals with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser: *Guys and Dolls* and *How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying*. *Guys and Dolls*, with a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, is praised for its balanced romantic and comic plots, inventive staging by Nicholas Hytner at the Bridge Theatre, and emotionally authentic performances that highlight the importance of character relationships. *How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying*, with a book by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock, and Willie Gilbert, is noted for its satirical take on corporate culture; the Southwark Playhouse production, directed by Georgie Rankcom, uses gender-bending casting to address the musical’s dated sexual politics while maintaining a playful and affectionate tone. Both revivals demonstrate creative approaches to classic works, engaging contemporary audiences while respecting the original material.
