Abstract
The article discusses the proposed constitutional change in Australia to establish the Indigenous Voice to Parliament, a representative body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the terms of a referendum, which, if successful, would mark the first constitutional change in 46 years and aim to address historical injustices by allowing Indigenous voices to influence laws and policies affecting their communities. The proposal, rooted in the Uluru Statement from the Heart, seeks to improve representation and rectify social inequities faced by Indigenous Australians, who currently experience significant disparities in health, employment, and incarceration rates. For the proposal to become law, it requires a double majority in the upcoming referendum, a challenging feat given Australia's historical context with constitutional changes.
