Abstract
The article focuses on the evaluation and critique of Hofstede's Individualism-Collectivism (I-C) index, a significant concept in cross-cultural research within psychology. The first study reveals that Hofstede's index has inferior validity and may perpetuate cultural stereotypes by overestimating individualism in English-speaking countries and collectivism in East Asian societies. The second study proposes a new, theory-driven I-C index based on data from the World Values Survey and European Values Study, which demonstrates better validity and stability. The authors advocate for a shift in cross-cultural research methodologies to utilize more accurate and contemporary measures of societal culture. [Extracted from the article]
