Abstract
This article focuses on Danessa Myricks’s unconventional journey into the beauty industry and her founding of Danessa Myricks Beauty in 2015 to address the lack of inclusivity in makeup products. Beginning with no formal experience or resources, Myricks developed innovative, multipurpose makeup shades to better serve medium to deep skin tones, which she found were underserved by existing brands. Her brand, now sold in Sephora, emphasizes the transformative impact of makeup on personal confidence and identity. Despite progress, Myricks notes ongoing challenges in creating formulas that work well across diverse skin tones.
